　こうした場合、カーリングでは「DSC（ドロー・ショット・チャレンジ）」と呼ばれる数値が用いられる。
　10チーム総当たりで行われた今大会の1次リーグでは、試合前に両チーム４人から任意で選ぶ代表2選手が、１回ずつ投球するLSD（ラスト・ストーン・ドロー）を行っていた。
　ハウス中心からの合計距離の短い方が第1エンドの先攻、後攻を選ぶ権利を得られる。１次リーグ９試合、計18投によるLSDの数値から、悪い方の2投を除いて平均化した数値がDSCで、DSCがより小さいチームが1次リーグを突破できるのだ。
　９試合目のLSDを終えたDSCは英国が8位、日本が９位、カナダが10位。4強に進んだ日本と、敗退の涙をのんだカナダの差は、9・44センチだった。」
