　「米国で中国人留学生が激減・・・
　中国人学生の留学の大きな「阻害要因」は費用の大幅上昇の可能性がある。米国をはじめとする海外の先進国の多くではここ数年、インフレが急速に進行しており、現地の一般人も日常の出費を負担することが困難になっている。まして中国人学生にとって、先進国での生活費はそれ以前から重い負担であり、しかも学費が上昇していることが追い討ちをかけている。・・・
　米国留学の場合、学費に生活費を加えると、年間の支出は6万－10万ドル（約890万－1500万円）になる場合もあり、さらに過去２年間にわたり人民元の対米ドルレートが大幅に下落したことで、中国人にとっての負担は一層大きくなった。
　一方で、中国国内では景気の低迷により、中流家庭はもちろん富裕層家庭の所得も減少している。また、現在は所得に影響が出ていないとしても、多くの家庭は支出について慎重になった。留学のような大出費を伴う選択は格別なぜいたくと考えられるようになり、若者の多くは留学の夢を断念せざるをえない状況だ。
　かつては、子どもの留学のためには過大な負担も厭わなかった家庭が多かったが、今では、多くの一般家庭がそのような能力や勇気を失ってしまった可能性がある。その背景には、すでに海外で留学生活を始めた学生の中に、家庭の収入が減ったためにローンの返済ができなくなったり、実家からの仕送りが途絶えたために自らのアルバイトだけに頼って学業を終えたり、中には学業を中断して帰国せざるをえない学生も発生しているなどの、過酷な状況がある。
　また、海外で学位を取得した後に希望の仕事に順調に就くことができれば、多くの家庭は留学にかかる莫大な出費にも耐えることもするだろう。しかし、卒業後もよい仕事に就けないケースも増えていることが、留学の夢を打ち壊す「とどめ」になっている。・・・
　国家統計局は先日、23年12月における16歳から24歳までの年齢層の失業率は14.9%、25歳から29歳までの年齢層では6.1%だったと発表した。留学を終え帰国した若者は、就職先についての「期待値」を引き下げざるをえなくなった。給与面でも希望額を引き下げ、さらに就職の競争が激烈な大都市での就職は諦めて、地方の中小都市での就職を狙う若者も増えた。・・・」
