＜核心＞
　＜日本の＞米国への編入は不可能でしょう。
　米国大統領選挙に日本人の票が影響してしまうことになりますから。
　この点は北朝鮮が度々非難するように「米国の属州にすぎない」が、それなりに正しい評価でしょう。
　（憲法も自衛隊も自力で作ったのではありませんから。）
　EUのように国家間での統合に近い状態が作り出されるためには各国民の価値観が一致していることが前提です。
　価値観の一致には記憶の一致が前提です。
　いま暫くは日本人の記憶を一致させることにも時間がかるようですから。
＜太田＞
　私自身は、日本の米国からの「独立」と、韓国、台湾とのFTA締結から始める統合化に向けての営みが平行して行われるべきだと考えているところですが、いずれにせよ、中長期的に、これまでの国民国家の域を超えた地域統合、そして究極的には世界統合を、日本がどのような経路で実現して行くのかについての幅広い議論が、そろそろ日本で本格的になされなければならない時期ではないでしょうか。

　私としては、和辻哲郎（1889～1960年）の『人間の学としての倫理学』（1934年）からも来てるって言って欲しかったな（コラム#3287）。

Fraternity could even guide the way towards the “higher and greater” goals of a single east Asian currency and greater regional political integration, and the European Union that Coudenhove-Kalergi helped bring about offers Japan an example of the benefits of localisation and subsidiarity, says Mr Hatoyama, whose party has made devolution of power to Japan’s regions a main campaign promise. ・・・
　While Mr Hatoyama dutifully describes Japan’s half- century alliance with the US as a “cornerstone” of diplomatic policy, his heart appears to be elsewhere. “We must not forget our identity as a nation located in Asia,” he writes. ・・・
