　いつも面白いコラムありがとうございます。
　ギュスターヴ・ドレ＜（コラム#3397）＞について、英語のウィキペディアには sculptorとも記述されていますが、実際は彫刻が中心の芸術家ではなく、画家あるいは木や鉄を使った版画家と考えるほうが良いと思われます。
　上野の西洋美術館には「ラ・シエスタ、スペインの思い出」という油絵が常設展示されていてこちらも素晴らしいので機会があったときにでもぜひご覧ください。

　もともと音楽とはまるで縁の無い生活をしており、彼女の存在自体知らなかったのに、すっかり嵌ってます。

　庄司紗矢香の演奏が終わった後の笑顔もとっても可愛いけど、寺井尚子が演奏中に楽しくて仕方がないという感じで微笑んでいるのもいいですよねー。彼女、ステップまで踏んでるもんな。

＜核心＞
　田母神氏＜（コラム#3462）＞の先生に当る人に森松俊夫という人がいます。
　グーグルで「森松俊夫」で検索して頂くと田母神氏のような考えの方の自衛官が生まれた背景が分かると思います。
　森松氏と私の個人的な関係についても暫くしたら・・・書き込みする予定でいます。
　少し前の私の「戦史叢書と南京大屠殺記念館の差」（コラム#3231）をお読みいただいてもご理解いただけると思います。
　私は２大政党制を支持する立場から民主党員ではありますが、まったく左翼ではありません。
　ゴルフを多少の趣味にしている母親の介護人です。
＜太田＞
　マルクスレーニン主義的史観の信奉者であるかどうかといういことと、その人が「左」翼か「右」翼かということとは、直接関係はありません。
　そもそも、マルクスレーニン主義史観は、カール・マルクス存命当時の英国の通説であった自由主義（Whig＝ウィッグ)史観を基本的に受け継いだものであり（コラム#1787参照）、日本の歴史学界は、現在もなお、この自由主義/マルクスレーニン主義史観の呪縛下にあるように私には思えます。
＜ΑΜΜΑ＞（「たった一人の反乱」より）
≫この文章を「＜我々が＞高脂肪の食物を摂ると、頭も体もほとんど即時に機能が低下しちゃう」という命題の形で要約紹介することのどこに問題があるんですかね？ この文章が、上記命題がネズミだけでなく人間にもあてはまるとしていることは、’according to new research on rats and people’ から明らかだよね。 だから、私による記事の紹介の仕方を批判するのなら、むしろニューヨークタイムスのこの記事を書いた科学担当記者を批判すべきじゃないんかい？ ≪（コラム#3462。太田）
　見出しと「この文章」に相当する導入部分を読み、後はざっと斜め読みして、記事紹介されたのですかね？
→私の作業のやり方ですが、記事のタイトルを読んで、面白そうなものは記事全文をダウンロードしておき、一連のダウンロード作業が終わったところで、ダウンロードした記事すべてについて、全文を、適宜アンダーラインをほどこしながら読んでいきます。
　その後、アンダーラインをした部分を中心に、「皆さんとディスカッション」や「過去・現在・未来」で紹介したり、翻訳の上、有料読者向けコラムの中で使用したりするわけです。（太田）
　＜上記記事の＞第一パラグラフに
　…new research on rats ＜and people＞…
と科学担当記者は書いていますが、その後の
　＜Although the human data aren’t yet published＞…＜appears to be＞…
で、私は「なんだそりゃ？」と、ずっこけたということです。
　科学担当記者が＜and people＞も書いてしまったのは拙いですが、全文を読めば、peopleに関してはresearchではないことは読み取れるはずです。
→上記記事はpeopleに関し、
　・・・Although the human data aren’t yet published, the researchers have also performed similar studies of high-fat diets in healthy young men who then performed exercise and cognitive tests. Dr. Murray said he is still reviewing the data, but the short-term effect of a fatty diet on humans appears to be similar to that found in the rat studies.・・・
と記した上で、因果関係についての仮説にまで踏み込んだ記述を行っています。
　つまり、まだペーパーにはなっていないというだけで、研究している学者の間では中間的結論のようなものは既に出ている、という趣旨の記述になっているのです。
　私は、記事を書いた記者が、ratとpeopleをひとくくりにして総括的記述を行ったのは、決して筆が滑ったものではない、という認識です。（太田）
≫また、「「有害作用」についての研究＜に＞は、それなりの注意を払う」べきだと言うんだから、この記事を紹介したことには意義があった、ということになりそうだよね。≪（同上）　
　もちろん、どの記事を紹介されるかは太田さんの自由であることは前提として、同日に紹介された

の差が激しいんですよ。前者はラットでの実験、後者は人での実験。
→前者は高脂肪の食事の短期的影響の話であり、後者は長期的影響の話じゃないですか。差が激しいも何も、全く別個の研究と受け止めるべきでしょう。（太田）
　さらに、後者は、nytimesから直リンクされているjamaに行くと、Prospective cohort study（前向きコホート研究）であることも分かります。
　坪野先生のフローチャートで分類すると、
　前者はステップ２で脱落
　後者はステップ５で脱落
するわけです。
→繰り返しになりますが、私は、ニューヨークタイムスのクラスの英米の主要メディアがニュースバリューがあると考え、それについて掲載した記事の総括的記述は、基本的に信頼するに足りると考えているところです。（太田）

≫ΑΑΜΜさん、私は日本の短大卒相当（日本の法学部卒）ではなく、歴とした日本の学部卒相当（米スタンフォード大学大学院卒）なので間違えないでね。≪（同上）
　スタンフォード大学・・・経営学と政治学で、文系であることは変わりないですね。
　そういや多くの高学歴のMBAを取得された人が会社の経営に携わって目先の株主利益を優先させ会社を傾かせたということがアメリカでよくあったっけ。
　文系には、理系にある実験という”ふるい”が無いから仮説に過ぎない理論を妄信してしまう危険性があるので上記のようなことが起こるんですね。
　特に高学歴でプライドの高い人ほど陥りやすいと思われますので太田氏も気をつけましょう。
＜太田＞
　私は、このコラムで累次米国のMBA教育の問題点を指摘してきたところだけど、屋上屋を架してくれて、まっことご苦労さま。
　それはともかくとして、こういう議論の仕方をする人こそまさに「日本の短大卒相当」だと言いたくなるんだよね。
　私が「日本の法学部卒」は「日本の短大卒相当」と言っているのは、いかなる意味なのか、過去コラムにあたって確認することなく、頭に浮かんだことをすぐ文章にして投稿しちゃうんだから・・。
　文系・理系とか、高学歴でプライドが高い、とか、全然関係ない話なんだなあ。
　（ちなみに、私は日本の法学部は実質理系、米国のビジネススクールも実質理系と考えていることも何度かこのコラムで言ってきたところだ。）
　キミ、（通常言うところの）理系の学部卒なのか、はたまた院卒なのかどうかは知らないけど、まともに勉強してなかったのかもな。
　では、記事の紹介です。
　米国におけるマフィアの起源を書いた本の書評です。
　「ゴッドファーザー」で描かれたマフィア像はウソだって。↓
　Giuseppe Morello is almost entirely unknown today, but Mike Dash’s vivid account of his life and crimes leaves no doubt that this would be a far different country — and in all likelihood a far better one — had he not emigrated here from Sicily in 1892. ・・・

The Mafia had existed here for at least a quarter-century before then, and thus was in position to capitalize spectacularly as control of the vastly profitable alcohol industry transferred from legitimate businesses to the underworld. ・・・

The Mafiosi who came to the United States in the late 19th century “were not sent there by their superiors as part of any worked-out plan to expand the influence of the fraternity,” but “traveled as private citizens, and if they did continue to pursue a life of crime, it was because the mala vita offered them the best prospect of a good living.”・・・
