　「民主党が鹿児島県霧島市で開いた集会で２枚の国旗を切り張りして作った民主党の旗を掲げた問題・・・
　この衆院選立候補予定者の決起集会には、民主党の小沢一郎代表代行も出席し、切り張りされた国旗が一時、民主党のホームページにも掲載されていた。・・・
　　平成１１年、国旗国歌法が成立した際、当時の民主党は自主投票で採決に臨んだ。自民党出身と旧民社党系の議員はほとんど賛成し、旧社会党系議員はほとんど反対した。そうした複雑な党内事情を反映してか、民主党の大会では国旗が掲げられていない。
　鳩山由紀夫代表も今回、「それは国旗ではなく、われわれの神聖なマークなのできちんと作られなければいけない」と国旗より党旗を重視するかのような発言をしている。・・・」

　なんだ、民主党の党旗の話じゃなかったんですか。
　昨日は、出かける直前で時間がなかったために、典拠にあたらなかったからこういう間違い（コラム#3470）が起きます。
　鳩山の芸術的センス云々の記述（同上）は撤回します。

　ディスカッションの経緯から、日本人が文系理系で区別したがるのは

　哲学の一分野であった自然哲学が、ニュートン（自称自然哲学者、他称自然科学者）以後、自然科学（近代科学）となり、哲学から独立したのは何故か？、これの詳しい話・・科学と宗教の対立・・をおーたんは知りたい、ってことなのかな？
　いや、科学と宗教の対立は、おーたんも百も承知でしょうし、そもそも、科学と宗教の対立と、ArtsとScienceの区分は全く関係ないのか…？
　壮大なテーマ過ぎて、私にゃ語れるほどの知識はありません～www

　理系・文系を分ける前に科学とは何かということを定義しないと話が進まないような・・・。

　本来のギリシャに始まる”もともとの”科学とは公理主義のことですよね。つまり、
　「議論の出発点に諸原理（定義や公理）を置き、そこから何らかの命題が真であることを論証してゆく形態の数学のことであり、演繹的に命題群を証明してできた体系を「公理論的数学」という。このような数学を、キオスのヒポクラテスが体系づけはじめ、紀元前300年ころには、ユークリッドが『原論』を編纂し、集大成した。」（ウィキ上掲）
　一方、太田氏の言われる（近代）科学は以下に説明される近代精密科学のことですよね。
　「20世紀の歴史学者ハーバート・バターフィールドは、17世紀のヨーロッパにおいて、自然現象を単に眺めて考察するという状態から一歩進んで、自然法則が作用する環境をさまざまな撹乱要因を取り除いて人為的に作り出す試み、すなわち実験（冒険）という手法を採用して、実証的に知識体系を進歩させていくという知的営為が形成されたとした。バターフィールドはこれを「科学革命」と名付け、人類史上における一大画期であるとして高い評価を与えた。
　古代から中世にかけての諸学問は、客観性や論理的な推論の過程を重視する学問的態度を伴ったものではなかった。
　すなわち、今日の自然科学が不可欠の要件としている態度である論理実証主義を欠いていたのであるという。
　例えば中世の大学での講義では、現実の観察結果が古典に書かれた内容と異なるものであれば、古典のテクストが正しいとされていた。」（ウィキ上掲）
　とすれば、近代精密科学（実験という手法を採用して、実証的に知識体系を進歩させていくという知的営為が形成された）の登場によって理系＝実験によって仮説を立証する学問文系＝対象が実験によって仮説を証明できないので、観察などの方法で仮説を立証する学問に別れたと考えられるのでは？？
　んー　でもじゃあ天文学とか地学も文系になってしまうなあ。

　「朝日新聞社は18、19の両日、全300小選挙区から統計的に選んだ150小選挙区の有権者を対象に電話調査を実施し、全国の取材網の情報も加えて選挙戦序盤の情勢を探った。その結果、（１）民主は単独で過半数（241）を大きく超え、300議席台をうかがう勢い（２）自民は選挙前議席（300）の半数に届かず、それよりさらに大きく後退する可能性（３）比例区では、公明、共産はほぼ前回並み、社民はやや苦戦――などの情勢がわかった。 ・・・」

　David Priestlandの本’The Red Flag: Communism and the Making of the Modern World’の書評です。↓
　・・・Priestland, a lecturer in modern history at Oxford University, has been studying the subject for the past 20 years. His thesis is that there has been a tension at the heart of the ideology, at least since the starting point he takes — the French Revolution in 1789. It is a tension between romantics（ロマン主義者） and modernisers（近代化主義者）.
　Karl Marx grew up in Trier in the Rhineland, right on the border between revolutionary France and conservative Germany. It was not just on a political fault line, but an intellectual one — between French enlightenment（啓蒙主義） and German romanticism（ロマン主義）. Marx attempted to combine both traditions in his thinking. It never quite worked. ・・・
　Priestland presents Joseph Stalin as a romantic, Lenin as a moderniser. Mao Zedong was a romantic, Deng Xiaoping（トウ小平） a moderniser. But he also believes that Nikita Khrushchev, Stalin’s shrewd successor, was a romantic — and so was the man who finally pulled down the pillars in the communist temple, Mikhail Gorbachev. If Gorbachev had not been “a typical romantic Marxist”, he would never have believed that communism could survive perestroika, he says — and therefore he would never have embarked on the revolution that destroyed it.・・・
　Priestland means it in the sense of being so idealistic and revolutionary that ＜Stalin and Mao＞ were capable of horrendous violence and cruelty in pursuit of their ends.・・・
　But he does not go so far as late Polish historian Leszek Kolakowski in concluding that events such as the Great Terror（大粛清） were not aberrations（逸脱現象） of communism but, rather, the inevitable consequence of a system that sanctioned the dictatorship of an elite.・・・
　 ＜Communism＞ practised the opposite of what it preached, creating an elite nomenklatura（ノメンクラトゥーラ） instead of a classless society, destroying the value of labour, wrecking the environment, undermining all trust between individuals.・・・
　・・・romantic revolutionaries proved unable to be effective modernisers: communism’s only successes, such as Sputnik or the atom bomb, came from stealing ideas or devoting ruinous amounts of resources to the project.・・・

　ドイツ由来のロマン主義者↑は、保守的な環境の下でアングロサクソンの理想に代わる理想を追求する人々であり、フランス由来の近代化主義者↑は、急進的な環境の下でアングロサクソンの理想をアングロサクソンより早く達成しようとする人々である、と考えたらよさそうです。
　どっちもドジることが運命づけられてるんですがね・・。
　以前（コラム#3429、3432、3435（いずれも未公開）で）とりあげた、欧州へのイスラム移民の問題に係るコールドウェル（Christopher Caldwell）の本の書評が再び載っていました。↓
　・・・mostly Latino migration into the United States. Latinos, he writes, simply speak another European language and bring with them a culture “that is like the American working-class white culture of 40 years ago. It is perfectly intelligible to any American who has ever had a conversation about the past with their parents. . . . [I]t requires no fundamental reform of American cultural practices or institutions. On balance, it may strengthen them.”・・・
　The fact remains, however, that as deadly as the Madrid and London bombings in 2004 and 2005 were, Europe’s worst post-World War II violence was visited on the European Muslims of Bosnia by the Orthodox European Christians of Serbia. Similarly, the body counts involved in the London bus and Madrid rail outrages pale beside those accumulated by the utterly indigenous, deeply traditional European fanatics of the IRA or the Basque ETA.

　マイルス・デイヴィス（Miles Davis。1926～91年。米国のジャズ・トランペット奏者にして楽団長かつ作曲家）のアルバム’Kind of Blue’発売50周年を記念した本、Richard Williams, The Blue Moment: Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue and the Remaking of Modern Music の書評が出ていました。↓
　This year marks the 50th anniversary of Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue, the biggest-selling jazz album ever. It was both a jazz-fan favourite and the one jazz album that even those who claim not to like jazz often own.
　But・・・ Kind of Blue is much more than a great jazz record. Perfectly capturing the moment of its creation, the recording by the American trumpeter influenced the innovators of radical rock, minimalist composition and urban funk and, through them, most of today’s contemporary music.・・・
　・・・＜Williams＞ places Davis’s conceptual clarity and explorations of time on a continuum running from 17-syllable haiku（俳句） poetry through the raga（曲）s of Indian classical music（＜リグヴェーダ由来の＞インド古典音楽） to the Bauhaus movement（＜ドイツの＞バウハウス運動）’s “simplification of outline and surface concealing a complex response to the modern world”. The latter exactly describes the economy of line of Davis’s playing. It reflects, too, a connection to the Paris intellectual elite through his affair（恋愛関係） with singer Juliette Greco（ジュリエット・グレコ＜。1927年～。フランス・レジスタンスの闘士＞）, who he met in Paris in 1949.・・・
