　昔、「17歳」という言葉が流行ったときに、テレビや学校で大人たちが道徳について語ってたのを思い出しました。

　神戸連続児童殺傷事件の時(1997年)、テレビで「なぜ人を殺してはいけないのか」と問いかけた高校生がいて、その質問に大人たちはうまく答える事ができなかったそうです。太田さんならどう答えますか？

　動画では、「正義について」(その1)に書いてある、1884年の救命ボートの「事件」で起訴された２人に対して、当時の英国の人々は同情的だったらしいです。

＞なぜ人を殺してはいけないのか
　なんて問うことは無意味だ、なぜなら、人を殺したっていいに決まってるからだ、と私なら答えますね。
　そして、法の一般理論や一般国際法の普及によって、今では全人類が、人や公権力がどんな場合に人を殺してよいかの認識を遍く共有している、と付け加えますね。
　具体的には、正当防衛と緊急避難、刑の執行、そして自衛権の行使です。

　後は『古寺巡礼』（岩波書店。岩波文庫化されている）くらいでしょうか。
　一番影響を受けたのは、『人間の学としての倫理学』（岩波全書）、一番面白かったのは、『風土–人間学的考察』（岩波書店。岩波文庫化されている）（コラム#3287、3460、3666）。

については、その抄訳と米国の他のプラグマティズムの哲学者の著作の抄訳とが収録されている本を大昔に買って持っていますが、今日に至るまでつん読のままです。
　しかし、考えてみると、米国論を展開する際に、ジェームスら米国の哲学者達への言及がないのは方手落ちかもしれません。
　近日中に、彼、取り上げますかね。
　お示しの龍樹（ナーガールジュナ）の著作やその解説本も私は読んでおりません。
　私の記憶に残っている仏教関係の本は次の通りです。
　道元『正法眼蔵』（全４巻。岩波文庫）：高校生の頃に挑戦したのですが、禅とは訳の分からないものである、という印象でした。
　唯円『歎異抄』（岩波文庫）：これは分かりやすかったけれど、違和感を覚えました。
　笠原一男『親鸞研究ノート』（図書新聞社）：大学の教養課程の時にとったゼミでの参考文献。ご自身が全く敬意を抱いていない浄土真宗を生涯の研究対象とした笠原教授

の心情が当時の私にとっては不可解であり（コラム#1029）、同教授に反発しながら斜め読みしました。でも、おかげで浄土真宗の理解が一挙に深まりました。
　増谷文雄編『鈴木大拙』（現代日本思想大系　筑摩書房）（コラム#2648）：米国人向けに書かれた禅の入門的著作（邦訳）の寄せ集め。禅が何となく分かった気になりました。
　『ブッダのことば（スッタニパータ）』（岩波文庫）：釈迦自身の言説の雰囲気を伝える書。釈迦の発想の奇想天外さ、柔軟さに驚嘆した記憶があります。
　『法華経』（全３巻。岩波文庫）：有名なお経の中身ってこんなものだったんだ、とおもしろがったりがっかりしたり。
　『般若心経（摩訶般若波羅蜜多心経）』：これはコメントいりませんよね。声出して読むべきものです。

　私自身は、まだ読んでいないのですが、碩学が書いた最新の本ということで、以前ご紹介したことがある（コラム#3616、3618、3620）ディアメイド・マックロック（Diarmaid MacCulloch）の’A History of Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years’がよさそうに思います。
　キリスト教に関心のある方は、何よりもまず、新旧約聖書そのものに親しまれることでしょう。
　手っ取り早くということであれば、聖書物語のようなものを斜め読めするという手もあります。
　その上で、山本七平が書いた聖書・キリスト教関係の本
