　（コラム#4839に関し）書き忘れたが、中国国民党が腐敗したファシスト集団であることが当時既に明らかになりつつあり、国民党か中国共産党かというのは、米国にとって、究極の悪魔の選択であったわけで、トルーマン政権が国民党支持に踏み切れなかったことは、それなりに理解はできる。
　（コラム#4677に関し）その経済の対日依存性はよく知られているが、旧日本帝国の一環として現在の韓国があることを、より端的に思い起こさせてくれるのが、K-POPと日本との密接不可分な関わりだ。

≫1980年代に手塚治虫は、アトムの原子炉をウラン使用から、より安全なカナダ製のCANDUが使用する重水素に切り替えていたっちゅうんだな。≪（コラム#4839。太田）
CANDU は重水素(deuterium)を使用しないはずですし、より安全なカナダ製のCANDUという断定的な言い方が、業界関係者としてちょっと気になってしまいました。
さっそく原文を読んでみたところ、アトムと福島事故をダシに使い、レトリックに富んだCANDU礼讃記事でした。最後の一文 “Had TEPCO executives only paid more attention to the exploits of Astro Boy. ” と仮定法過去完了の条件節のみで終わっており、CANDUさえ導入していれば、今回の事故は防げていただろうにと読者に連想させるようになっています。読み手として誰を想定しているかわかりませんが、結局、原子力新設の際は、CANDU が一番だからねっていうのが言いたいことだったと理解しました。なお、日本で CANDU が採用されてこなかったのは、日本が米国べったりだからという批判付です（だから、この記事が太田さんの目に止まったのだと納得しました）。
さて、最初から最後までつっこみどころ満載でしたが、アトムとCANDUの両方について誤解を招く表現が多い最後のパラグラフについてコメントします。

It is not a coincidence that the relatively safe HTR reactor that Bonnenberg champions and the latest version of the CANDU are being built in China. Renewable energy may be the wave of the future, but safer nuclear reactors are needed to fill the gap. In the 1980s, Osamu Tezuka, the cartoonist who created Astro Boy, replaced the nuclear reactor in his robot hero’s chest with a reactor using deuterium, the D in CANDU. Had TEPCO executives only paid more attention to the exploits of Astro Boy.
訳：
Bonnenberg氏が推す比較的安全である超高温原子炉と並んで、最新バージョンのCANDU炉が、中国で建設中であるということは偶然の一致ではない。再生可能エネルギーは将来主流になるかもしれないが、（需給バランス）のギャップを埋めるためには、より安全な原子炉が必要とされるのだ。1980年代、鉄腕アトムを産んだ漫画家、手塚治虫は、彼のロボットヒーローの胸の中の原子炉を、重水素（CANDUのあのDだ）を使う炉に置き換えた。東電経営陣が鉄腕アトムのその偉業にもっと注意を払っていれさえすれば、である。
誤解を招く点は次の３点です
1)軽水炉は失敗したデザインであると主張しているBonnenberg氏を登場させ、ライバルである軽水炉（BWR、PWRなど）をCANDU以下という印象を持たせている
→軽水炉は失敗したデザインと氏が主張しているのは真実。だからと言って重水炉（CANDUなど）を推しているわけではありません。彼はあくまでも超高温原子炉支持者です。

2)中性子を浴びても放射能を持たないヘリウムを冷却材と用いて万が一冷却材が漏れても安全と言われる超高温原子炉と並べて、CANDU炉を記することにより、この２つだけが安全面で評価されていると言う印象を持たせている
→どちらも建設中であることは事実。ただし、軽水炉である AP1000 も EPR も同様に工事中です。中国は最終的には国産化を目指しており、技術移転のため、貪欲にいろいろなタイプの炉を建設中なのです。（いい典拠がありませんでした。参考まで→

3)“CANDUのあのDだ”と一言挿入することにより、あたかも、CANDUは、アトムの胸の炉と同じで先進性があると言う印象を持たせている
→アトムの炉は重水素を燃料とする核融合炉です。CANDU炉は天然ウランを燃料とした炉で、両者はまったく違うものです。さらに、CANDU炉では、重水素（deuterium）を使用しません。ただ、減速材、冷却材として重水(heavy water 化学式 D2O) を利用します

言うなれば、水素自動車の燃料は、ホンダの車のエンジンのラジエターって言う冷却装置で使っている冷却材水H20のHと同じで、水素なんですと言えば、だから何？って感はありますが、まだ意味は通じます。それを、水素自動車の燃料は、ホンダの車で使っているあのＨと同じ、水素なんですと短縮して言ってしまうと、Hってやつを使っているホンダの車って、なんかわからなけど水素自動車なみにすごいらしいぞって勘違いしてしまうかもしれません。
故意に誤解することを誘導しているのか、純粋なCANDU信奉者なのか不明なのですが、名前と寄稿している媒体名をキーに調べたところ、ハンガリー生まれ、カナダ育ちの方のようでした。
