　「歴史家・政治家の朴殷植（パク・ウンシク、1859－1925）先生は著書『韓国痛史』で朝鮮亡国の出発点を2回の「洋禍（外国による災い）」に見いだした。
　朝鮮が1866年にフランスと戦った「丙寅洋擾（へいいんようじょう）」と、1871年に米国と戦った「辛未洋擾（しんみようじょう））」のことだ。…
　「（敵が退いた後）韓国の文物や武力は十分だとうぬぼれ、頑固傲慢（ごうまん）になり中興の機会を逃した」ことに、先生は朝鮮亡国の端緒を見た。…
　高宗の実父で国政をつかさどった興宣大院君は「洋禍」後、次のような詩を詠んだ…
　「西洋の船の砲煙で天下が暗くなっても東方の日月は万年を照らすだろう」。朴殷植先生が亡国の原因に挙げた「頑固傲慢」がこの１行に凝縮されている。…
　朝鮮で「洋禍」があった間、日本では明治維新という大きな変革が起こっていた。… 当時の日本は自国の体制変革を伝える外交文書を朝鮮に渡そうとしていた。
　今考えてみれば、それは国運にかかわる重要な情報だった。
　ところが、朝鮮はその内容を重視せずに文中の語句を問題視し、外交文書の受け取りを拒否した。
　日本が身の程知らずにも「皇（天皇）」という字を使ったというのがその理由だ。
　このように世情との間に壁を作った朝鮮は、外交文書拒否が日本で「征韓論（朝鮮侵略論）」の流れにつながっていき、内戦へと拡大する実像を正しく認識しないまま、日本統治時代に入った。」

　社会基盤学科＝土木工学科のことです。
　工学部１号館に所在する伝統ある学科です。

　「Civil Engineering」を土木工学と訳すと、どうしてもダムやトンネルを作っていると＜いう＞イメージになるので、1987年から社会基盤工学という名称を使い始めました。　（当時は進振りで底点割れ学科だったのですが、） 今では、進振りで工学部最難関学科になったようです。

　「”Civil Engineering”と表記する。当初は主として民業施設に関した工学を意味したとされる。これは1771年にイギリスの機械技術者ジョン・スミートンが、軍事以外の部門を意味する”Civil”を”Military”の反意語として用いた”Civil Engineering”に由来するとされている。」
